GREG & TARA
SINGLE-FAMILY HOMENichol Road, Revelstoke, B.C. - 2013
Greg and Tara's south facing lot came with few constraints. Layout wise, there was a need to allow the covered parking of a raised Delica mini-van. The house plan was to be simple, efficient, and be orientated to the south, private garden.
To create interest in the forms, and concious of the huge snowfall Revelstoke recieves, the roof lines where tilted and angled independently from each other. This worked to define the spaces underneath them, and served to push snow away from where it was not wanted.
A covered walkway with natural stained cedar provides a glowing warm entry, inviting you in. An open plan lounge/dining room has two bedrooms off it, on either side of the house. To be as efficient as possible in a modest size, the mechanical and service rooms are arranged in a row on the north side of the building. This allows for, among other things, a straight simple plumbing run. The lounge and master bedroom have vaulted ceilings.
An incredible 8' x 8' window faces south, providing views out from the living room.
The client was very open to introducing colours on the elevations, and the greens, yellows and natural cedar all compliment each other, while being close to the surrounding forest colours.
North Elevation with raised two different garage door sizes.
View looking to the entry of the home. The covered entry protects the owner from snowfall.
